After that nasty storm hit Cache Valley a week ago, you’re probably worried a bit more about your outside than your inside. Don’t neglect that inside, though; the reasons why you need deep cleaning this fall aren’t going away, they’re just increasing. Here are a few things you should consider about your deep cleaning this fall.
1. Deep Cleaning Touched Surfaces
The cold is going to bring more than a few cases of the sniffles this year. With the outbreak still in progress, that’s probably worrying you. When people start spending more time indoors, it becomes easier for infections to spread, so you’re going to have to do extra deep cleaning to keep healthy. In addition to washing your hands, you’ll want to make sure you’re washing and sanitizing all the regularly touched surfaces. These include countertops, doorknobs, handles, phones, and anything else family members regularly touch. Make sure you sanitize these surfaces before and after they get used. Coupled with regular hand washing, this will go a long way to protecting your health this fall and winter.
2. Have A Deep Cleaning Schedule
You’d be surprised how much a schedule helps. The hardest part of any big job – and this is definitely a big job – is getting started. When there’s so much to do, we can’t process the job and don’t know where to begin. Having a schedule breaks the job down into smaller, more manageable pieces and lets you focus on one thing at a time. It makes it easier to get started and being able to track your progress makes the job seem smaller.
3. Hard Surface Floors
Last year, Les Schwab hired us to clean up their floors during the fall and winter months. When it comes to hard surface floors like tile and linoleum, they’d found that without regular cleaning is needed to avoid damage. The wetness of everyone’s shoes makes them sticky. They bring in pebbles and other small objects that scratch and cut the floors as they walk. Then there’s all the chemicals being sprayed on the road for de-icing, which can corrode the floors. As a part of your schedule, you’ll want to make sure you’re cleaning your hard floors at least once a week to prevent this damage. A really useful trick we’ve found is mixing vinegar and water for mopping. It works wonders!
4. Clean Air
Dust is mainly composed of dead skin cells (gross!). Since people are going to be spending more time in doors, that naturally means fall and winter will see more dust in your home. You want to make sure you spend a bit more time dusting your home than you usually would in the summer or spring. If you don’t keep on top of it, the extra dust in the air will leave you coughing more. That can make sleeping more difficult, and make people feel generally more irritable. Winter’s miserable enough without that!
